SEATTLE

Four-time qualifying Olympian and world-class marathoner Shalane Flanagan and chef and nutrition coach Elyse Kopecky team up on a cookbook for runners that proves food can be indulgent and nourishing at the same time.

As former cross-country teammates and roommates at the University of North Carolina, Shalane and Elyse have been friends for 16 years and runners for a lifetime. They have seen athletic friends misconstrue nutritional advice, obsess over calories, fear fat – and the damage done. Run Fast Eat Slow is their remedy, a cookbook for athletes that doesn’t promise “light and lean” recipes but serious fuel. Both saturated and unsaturated fat from whole foods are critical for energy, healthy brain function, cardiovascular strength, hormone balance, lean muscle, and combating inflammation. The recipes in Run Fast Eat Slow are chock-full of amazing fats – olive oil, butter, nuts and seeds, avocado, coconut oil, whole milk yogurt, to name a few, and are free of nutrient-stripped processed ingredients. Plus, the recipes are accessible to the beginner chef, inspiring for the skilled chef, simple and fast for the time-starved, and nourishing for anyone living an active life.

We are thrilled to welcome Shalane (who is competing in the marathon in the Olypmics in Rio on August 14th!) and Elyse to Book Larder in Seattle! They will talk about eating and cooking as professional atheletes, answer your questions, and sign copies of Run Fast Eat Slow, which will be available for purchase that evening.
